Arkansas River Run

This short mixed-terrain ride starts out west of downtown along the Arkansas River. The route highlights the cultural and historical significance of the river on Pueblo’s identity. It reinforces the agricultural, industrial, and recreational impact of the 9th longest river in the country. Expect to see people
surfing river waves, fly fishers, and an abundance of wildlife. A feature of the route is the Arkansas Dam. Built in 1972, this massive concrete structure ensures reduction of flood risk, and efficiently distributes water resources beyond Pueblo County. It provides an average annual water supply of 80,400 acre-feet for both municipal/domestic use, while also managing 280,600 acres worth of irrigation. Above the river basin, you’ll get sweeping views of the Front Range to the north and south while returning to town on unpaved, ranch-lined, Rock Creek Springs Road.
