Medal of Honor

Pueblo is known as the Home of Heroes. No community has produced more Congressional Medal of Honor recipients (four total) in the U.S.. President Dwight Eisenhower once remarked, “What is it… something in the water out there in Pueblo? All you guys turn out to be heroes!” The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor given by the Armed Services of the United States. This is a challenging route through the canyons and plains of eastern Pueblo County. It crosses the Huerfano and Arkansas Rivers, and travels through the towns of  Nepesta and Boone, with the latter serving as a stage stop. Boone was founded by Albert Gallatin Boone, a grandson of Daniel Boone, during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush of 1859. The ride’s return travels near Fort Reynolds, one of the first U.S. Army forts built in Colorado after the Civil War.
