3R Ranch Loop

A foundational component to Pueblo County’s heritage is cattle ranching. From the days of Spanish land grants, to the trailblazing cattle drives of Charles Goodnight, and the charraria revivals of the 1970s, cowboy culture is ingrained into Pueblo’s identity. This is part of the reason why
the Professional Bull Riders chose to establish the organization’s headquarters in the Union Ave Historic District back in 1992. The route goes into the foothills below the Wet Mountains. Expansive views, a high sun, and rolling terrain enhance the ride’s old west vibe. A historical landmark along the way is the 3R Ranch, which traces its origin to the Gervacias Nolan land grant of 1843. It later passed hands to Peter Dotson, who owned a grist mill and held an affinity for whiskey. Local lore says the mill exploded due to his distilling efforts. This is how Burnt Mill Road got its name.
