Wild Horse Loop

Long considered a local secret stash of gravel roads and trails, this remote area of BLM outside of DeBeque has attracted adventurers for decades, including horse riders, motorcyclists, and cyclists. A stunning desert landscape and a geological feature known as the Goblins makes this one unforgettable. Wild Horse draws its name as a result of the herds of wild horses that roam an area of the mesa that was established by the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. This law protects wild horses and burros on public lands, and prohibits the harassment, capture, and killing of them. This route is great for those seeking to get away from traffic and see the lesser known side of Mesa County. It is a bit rough in sections and 45+ tires are recommended. It’s also a fantastic training ride for the once a year, locally produced Wild Horse Gravel event hosted by The Ride Collective.
