Beulah-Rye Round-up

Stringing together expansive rolling terrain, Front Range views, and climbing in Wet Mountains. It goes through “Mace’s Hole,” a narrow pass entrance to Beulah. It was notorious in the 19th century as a bandit hideout. Juan Mace (Maes) was the first famous outlaw to utilize the isolated valley in the 1840s. It’s where he held the stock stolen from travelers and early ranchers. Leaving Beulah, you continue on unpaved SH 78, which was built for the purpose of providing Puebloans access to the mountains towards the west. The San Carlos trail segment before Old San Isabel Road has singletrack and should be considered rough technical gravel riding. Returning through Rye, you can fuel up for the leg to Pueblo on S. Burnt Mill Road. A solid long distance ride with three stage stops to help with a challenging all day effort on the bike.
